About Me

Varian Morn

I’m just a boring author! I’ve been writing for almost two decades now, from uploading independently on amazon via KDP to free online serials like my ongoing story The Non-Human Society on Royal Road!

  • I’ve also written under different pen names! No I’m too embarrassed to share them!
  • I write stories that I myself want to read. That being said I actually read far different styles and genres than what I write!
  • This is a hobby for me! I do have stories on amazon, and a patreon, but the funds I make from them are simply used on the projects themselves. Ie, recently I commissioned some artwork for TNHS!
  • My favorite games are RTS style! Particular favorites over the years that I’ve put lots of hours into are things like Starcraft, There Are Billions, Anno and so much more! Outside of RTS I’m also a big fan of things like the older Final Fantasy games, (8 not 7!) and older zelda games. Basically single-player games with overreaching story-arcs, like the more recent A Plague Tale, or the Bioshocks. I even like the older horror games!
  • I’m also big on card games, board games, and if I had time for it I’d even be involved in tabletops and whatnot. Sadly I just don’t have the time for such things anymore ๐Ÿ™

I try to avoid pointing out singular books that I like, because no matter which I pick someone will have fault with or find me lacking. But here’s a small list of things in no particular order that I’ve enjoyed throughout the years, omitting things that I think nearly every reader has read and has in their own library:

  • The Repairman Jack Series by F. Paul Wilson, though admittedly didn’t care much for the tie-ins and where the story went at the end.
  • Some of Matthew Reilly’s stories, particularly Contest. It’s basically what everyone is writing today just… written decades ago before the genre was a thing lol.
  • I am a cat by Natsume Soseki
  • The Swords Trilogy by Michael Moorcock
  • The Illuminatus! books.
  • The King of Elfland’s Daughter
  • The Broken Sword
  • The Stars My Destination
  • A few of Mercedes Lackey’s books, half-blood series comes to mind first followed by their obsidian trilogy (it was a co-authored work I think?)
  • E.E. Knight’s Dragon books
  • Some of James Rollins’ works.
  • The Dragon Weather by Lawrence Watt-Evans
  • Black Fleet by Jashua Dalzelle
  • And so countless many more…!

If I ever get more than a few questions I’ll post them here in a Q/A standpoint. So far though I’ve really only gotten questions such as what has been answered by the stuff above ๐Ÿ˜›

And so, at the end of the day I’m just a typical would-be author…! I don’t write well enough to do this for a living, so it is and always will be just a hobby. But that doesn’t mean I don’t try my best at it, and hope you all enjoy the works I produce…!

Stand Tall, Always!
